This week we see The longest day of the year, the Summer solstice, is on or near 21 June. It is the day when the sun is at its most northerly point and this is why it is "the longest day".

Sadly these occasions have lost their significance in modern day but in past times this and mid summers day were hugely important.

This year our summer has so far been heavy consistent rain, great for the garden, but no so good for events which rely on good weather in bring in crowds of people.  Lets hope August and September bring sunshine with them.
