Today is a day to celebrate mothers and all the work that they do.
Mothering Sunday, to give the day its proper title in the UK, is a day where we take time to say thank you to our mothers for all they do.
Mothering Sunday is always celebrated on the forth Sunday of Lent. It has been known by many different names through out history but it is also a day where fasting rules were relaxed.
Mothering Sunday is also sometimes know as Simnel Sunday because of the tradition of baking Simnel cakes. This is now eaten on Easter Day.
Mother's Day in modern times has taken the most US approach, even taking on the name Mother's Day, sadly its true origin, is sometimes forgotten.
